FELONY7, TINSELTOWN REBELLION

At Sir John Cockle, Mansfield, Friday 1st december

The Felony 7 lads, good friends of mine, played their ususal, punk/pop set lists, and were unlucky to bring the house down. Mind you that was only because the mosh pit... well, half crowd was comprised of me and four girls - due to the fact that only two bands were playing, hardly any of the local rockers turned out. Felony played well enough to deserve credit, because they are a good band, and all the girls like them. Including the girls I tried chatting up. Damn you guys! All in all, a damn good supporting act to have. Should be headliners though, With raw, angst ridden yet cleverly constructed songs such as 'sooner or later' and 'what you've done', they set a feel fro the night, even if not everyone felt it. We persuaded them to play Faith, at the end, which is... was a usual, nicely wrapping it up. All credit to them despite being ignored by the rest of the pub.
Tinseltown faced the same problem, yet overcame it in the same manner. That's the 'fuck it, we'll just rock' manner, of course. Title track 'The crack's as good as the smack', partly used as an intro by Felony, still sounds good, no matter how many times you hear it. Vocals screaming, they blasted their way through excellent songs like 'Mr Sad' (come on, sing along... HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!), Snowman and new song the weed's as good as the speed. Their style is somewhat original, blending punk with nu-metal. Good musicians, they know what they're doing, and know how to please a crowd. When they have a crowd.
All in all, two good bands playing good songs to a largely unknowing crowd. Gigs in the past, including the battle of the bands, have been much better, seeing as the number of bands with good followings have always turned up. Had there been a decent number of people moshing, the gig would have been complete. Unlucky lads, but keep smackin' your musical bitches. :)
